2. Hornbill Festival 2025: 26th Edition Opens Amid PAP Row

  • The 26th Hornbill Festival began in Nagaland with a budget of ₹7 crore, run by the state tourism department.
  • It was the first edition after the Protected Area Regime was brought back in Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.
  • Under the regime, foreigners need a special Ministry of Home Affairs permit to enter the protected areas.
  • Nagaland had enjoyed relaxed protected-area curbs since 2011 to encourage tourism.

7. BC Sakhis: Women Banking Agents Under DAY-NRLM

  • BC Sakhis are women banking correspondents drawn from Self-Help Groups under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–NRLM.
  • Rural areas get 7.7% of bank credit against 60.6% for urban metros.
  • Training is a six-day residential course with Indian Institute of Banking and Finance certification; 96.5% of trainees pass.
  • The aim is one BC agent in each of 150,000 Gram Panchayats.

13. WHO issues first guideline on GLP-1 drugs for obesity

  • WHO issued its first guideline on GLP-1 therapies for adults with obesity (BMI of 30 or above).
  • The guideline covers semaglutide, tirzepatide and liraglutide; pregnant women are excluded.
  • GLP-1 medicines deliver roughly 15-20% weight loss and must be paired with diet and exercise.
  • Fewer than 10% of eligible people may get these drugs by 2030; obesity costs may reach USD 3 trillion yearly.
