1. Dao Blade and Yak Churpi: Arunachal GI Tags 2025

Arunachal Pradesh secured two new Geographical Indication tags in November 2025.
The tagged products are the traditional blade Dao and the high-altitude dairy item Yak Churpi.
The GI Registry under DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, granted the recognition.

2. Vivek Chaturvedi Appointed CBIC Chairman

Vivek Chaturvedi has been appointed Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs after ACC approval.
He belongs to the 1990 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes).
He succeeds Sanjay Agrawal, who retires on 30 November 2025.
He earlier served as Principal Director General of Vigilance and Chief Vigilance Officer.

3. DoT Mandates Continuous SIM-Binding for Messaging Apps

Apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Arattai must ensure the device running them contains the corresponding active SIM.
Web versions must require re-linking through QR-based authentication within six hours.
Companies must complete technical changes in 90 days and file compliance reports in 120 days.
The directive rests on the Telecommunications Act, 2023 and the Telecom Cyber Security Rules, 2024.

4. UP Crosses 1 GW Rooftop Solar Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Uttar Pradesh crossed 1 GW of residential rooftop solar, with 1,003.64 MW installed on 2.90 lakh homes.
It is the third state to pass 1 GW, after Gujarat (1.82 GW) and Maharashtra (1.32 GW).
Subsidy is Rs 15,000 per kW up to 2 kW, and Rs 1.08 lakh in all for a 3 kW system.
The Centre has given Rs 1,999 crore and the state nearly Rs 600 crore in subsidies.

CSIR-NAL, Bengaluru unveiled the production Hansa-3(NG), an indigenous two-seater trainer.

Kolkata saw an unusual surge of brown butterflies, identified as the Common Evening Brown (Melanitis leda).

India will establish the National Coral Reef Research Institute (NCRRI) at Chidiyatapu, South Andaman.
The planned investment is Rs 120 crore.

India's humanitarian mission for cyclone-hit Sri Lanka is known as Operation Sagar Bandhu.
An IAF C-130J landed at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport with nearly 12 tonnes of relief material.
INS Vikrant and INS Udaigiri delivered the first tranche of assistance to Colombo.
Cyclone Ditwah brought heavy rain, reservoir overflows and landslides across Sri Lanka.

12. Tom Stoppard, Oscar-Winning Playwright, Dies at 88

Sir Tom Stoppard died aged 88 at his home in Dorset, England, with Wikipedia giving the date as 29 November 2025.
He was born Tomas Straussler on 3 July 1937 in Zlin, Czechoslovakia, and knighted in 1997.
He won an Academy Award for the screenplay of Shakespeare in Love.
He won five Tony Awards for Best Play, including for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Leopoldstadt.
