  • FSSAI warned food business operators against labelling herbal infusions and plant-based blends as 'tea'.
  • Such labelling is treated as misbranding and misleading consumers under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
  • Under FSSAI rules, 'tea' may be used only for drinks derived from Camellia sinensis.
  • Products such as herbal tea, rooibos tea and flower tea were found being sold under the name.
