3. NREGS Wage Hike Likely Small in FY26

  • The Centre is unlikely to lift NREGS wages beyond the usual 2-7% annual hike, fearing inflation and fiscal complications.
  • A parliamentary panel led by Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka sought at least ₹400 a day and 150 workdays instead of 100.
  • The NREGS budget for FY26 is ₹86,000 crore, unchanged from FY25.

20. U.S. Reciprocal Tariffs: What They Mean for India

  • The U.S. reciprocal tariff formula is -1/2 x (U.S. exports minus U.S. imports) divided by U.S. imports.
  • Using 2024 data, India's reciprocal tariff worked out to 26%, on top of existing commodity tariffs.
