After a run of disruptions to real-time payments on UPI, the NPCI and member banks started working on a lasting remedy.
Key facts
- Cause identified: a very high frequency of “Check Transaction Status” requests from banks.
- These calls overload the network and make it unstable.
- The fourth outage in three weeks came on 12 April.
- APIs allow secure, real-time communication between bank systems and the UPI network.
