3. Railways completes 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang line in Mizoram

The new line to Sairang is 51.38 km long and brings the rail network close to Mizoram's capital Aizawl.
It has 48 tunnels totalling 12.85 km and 142 bridges, and cost over Rs 5,020 crore.
Aizawl to Silchar travel is expected to fall from about five hours by road to 1.5 hours.
The railhead supports the Act East Policy by handling goods from the India-funded Sittwe Port in Myanmar.

The species is Endangered on the IUCN list and is protected under Schedule-I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
