2. Fino Payments Bank Gets In-Principle Nod to Become an SFB

  • RBI gave Fino Payments Bank in-principle approval to convert into a small finance bank, a first for any payments bank.
  • Fino has 18 months to meet all regulatory conditions before RBI grants the final licence.
  • SFB applicants need minimum ₹200 crore capital; promoters hold at least 40%, falling to 26% within 12 years.
  • SFB priority-sector target was cut from 75% to 60% of ANBC or CEOBE, whichever is higher.

5. Large Exposures Framework: RBI Limits on Bank Lending

  • The Large Exposures Framework (LEF) limits credit concentration and follows Basel Committee on Banking Supervision standards.
  • Single counterparty limit is 20% of Tier-1 capital; group of connected counterparties is 25%.
  • RBI may allow up to 25% and 30% respectively in special cases.
  • In December 2025 RBI scrapped the 2016 large borrower framework; LEF limits stay unchanged.

  • India and Russia adopted a 2030 Economic Cooperation Programme in December 2025.
  • Bilateral trade was about USD 64 billion in the previous year.
