1. Justice Surya Kant Appointed 53rd Chief Justice of India

Justice Surya Kant was appointed the 53rd Chief Justice of India on 30 October 2025.
He succeeds Justice B R Gavai; the notification came under Article 124(2) of the Constitution.
He is due to take the oath on 24 November 2025; a CJI serves until age 65.
He was Advocate-General of Haryana and later Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

2. India Beat Australia in Women’s World Cup Semi-Final, Record Chase

India beat Australia by five wickets in the 2025 Women's World Cup semi-final on 30 October at Navi Mumbai.
Australia made 338/7; India replied with 341/5 in 48.3 overs, the highest successful chase in Women's ODIs.
Jemimah Rodrigues hit an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls and was Player of the Match.
She and captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 167 runs together.

3. Elderly in India: Population Trends and Welfare Schemes

India's 60-plus population is projected to rise from 100 million in 2011 to 230 million by 2036, about 15% of the total.
LASI 2021: 12% of Indians are elderly, 58% of them women, and the elderly dependency ratio is 62 per 100 working-age people.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is the nodal ministry for senior citizens' welfare.
The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 (amended 2019) removed the ₹10,000 maintenance ceiling.
