A VVGNLI study estimates 61 million gig workers by 2047, about 15% of the non-agricultural workforce.
e-Shram was launched on 26 August 2021 by the Labour Ministry to build the National Database of Unorganised Workers.
Each worker gets a 12-digit Universal Account Number; the target is 38 crore workers.
