1. Sarnath Added to UNESCO World Heritage List as India’s 45th Site

  • The Ancient Buddhist Site, Sarnath was inscribed on 25 July 2026 at the 48th World Heritage Committee session in Busan.
  • The listing lifts India to 45 World Heritage Sites, sixth in the world and second in Asia-Pacific.
  • Uttar Pradesh now has four such sites; the other three, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, are in the Agra region.
  • Kushinagar is the only one of the four principal Buddhist pilgrimage sites not yet inscribed.

10. Securities Markets Code Bill: Standing Committee Report
