6. PM-YASASVI Scheme: Scholarships and Hostels for OBC, EBC, DNT

  • PM-YASASVI is an umbrella scheme of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment combining scholarships and hostels for backward youth.
  • Open to OBC, EBC and DNT students outside the creamy layer, with a family income ceiling of ₹2.50 lakh a year.
  • Top-class school component pays up to ₹75,000 a year for Classes 9-10 and ₹1,25,000 for Classes 11-12.
  • Selection for top-class components is through the YASASVI Entrance Test held by NTA.

12. US Section 301 Tariff of 10% on Indian Goods

  • From 24 July 2026 the US levies a 10% Section 301 tariff on Indian goods, over lax action on forced labour.
  • India moved from a proposed 12.5% to the 10% bracket.
  • DGFT amended the Foreign Trade Policy on 13 July 2026 to bar imports made with forced labour.
  • Gems, jewellery and textile sectors voiced worries over margins and competitiveness.

14. Kutki Stolon Harvest Model: Sustainable Picrorhiza Farming in Mandi

  • Farmers in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, developed a stolon-only harvest and cultivation model for the endangered Himalayan herb Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa).
  • The mother rhizome is left in the soil to regrow, so the herb becomes a multi-year crop.
  • Kutki is IUCN Endangered and in CITES Appendix II; its active principle is kutkin.
  • Stolon cuttings allow harvest in about 2-2.5 years, in September-October.

19. ICMM Water Dataset: Most Mining Sites Face Water Risk

  • ICMM released its Global Mining and Metals Water Dataset in London on 22 July 2026.
  • About two in three mining and metals facilities worldwide are exposed to serious physical water risk.
  • The dataset covers 12,000 facilities in 148 countries and regions and was made with WWF and WRI.
  • Central India is flagged as a compound water-risk hotspot.
