1. Gram Sabha Participation Study: NIRD&PR Report Findings

  • NITI Aayog Member R. Balasubramaniam released the Gram Sabha participation study on 30 June 2026.
  • NIRD&PR Hyderabad prepared the two-volume report for the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, covering 400 Gram Panchayats in 26 States/UTs.
  • Over half of the barriers to attending Gram Sabhas relate to livelihoods.
  • The 73rd Amendment came into force on 24 April 1993 and added Part IX and the 11th Schedule.

2. Akashvani 90 Years: Swar Prerna Veethika Gallery Opens

  • Akashvani opened Swar Prerna Veethika, a permanent photo gallery of legendary musicians, on 1 July 2026 at Akashvani Bhavan, New Delhi.
  • Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia inaugurated it as part of the 90-year celebrations.
  • All India Radio was officially launched on 8 June 1936; the name Akashvani was adopted in 1956.
  • Prasar Bharati, set up on 23 November 1997 under the 1990 Act, runs Akashvani and Doordarshan.

5. Mission SAKSHAM: RBI Skill Drive for Urban Cooperative Banks

  • Mission SAKSHAM, short for Sahakari Bank Kshamta Nirman, was launched by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra on 28 April 2026.
  • It plans to train about 1.40 lakh people in urban cooperative banks over 24 months, in person and online.
  • UCBs fall into four tiers by deposit size: up to Rs 100 crore, 100-1,000, 1,000-10,000, and above 10,000 crore.
  • NUCFDC is the umbrella organisation for UCBs and is approved by RBI as an NBFC and self-regulatory organisation.

8. High-Oleic Groundnut: ICGV 201214 and ICGV 181030 Identified

  • ICGV 201214 and ICGV 181030, medium-duration Spanish bunch groundnuts bred with ICRISAT, were identified by AICRP-G's Variety Identification Committee at Pune.
  • ICGV 201214 has 81% oleic acid and gave 19% more kernel yield than check variety JL 501.
  • ICGV 181030 has about 78% oleic acid and is the first high-oleic groundnut variety approved for Odisha and the Northeast.
  • Groundnut kernels with 78% or more oleic acid count as high-oleic and keep far longer.

9. Balwaan Krishi Opens Chennai and Visakhapatnam Hubs

  • Balwaan Krishi, a Jaipur startup making farm equipment for small farmers, opened logistics and distribution hubs at Chennai and Visakhapatnam.
  • The ₹50 lakh, 14,000 sq ft Chennai facility serves all 38 Tamil Nadu districts via 34 dealers and feeds Andhra Pradesh through 59 dealers.
  • SMAM gives 40-50% subsidy on machinery and was merged with RKVY in September 2022.

11. Himalayan Ray-Finned Fish Rescue by Nyishi Sangno Clan

  • The Sangno clan (Nyishi tribe, East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh) moved 52 fingerlings of the endangered Schizothorax pelzami.
  • Fish were shifted from Lapabung stream (Talo village) to Richaso stream (Weshi village), a stretch Mahseer cannot reach.
  • The species is called Ngarsing locally and Transcaspian marinka commonly; it is in the Cyprinidae family.
  • A five-year complete fishing ban in Richaso stream has been proposed; IUCN lists the fish as Endangered.

14. DAC Clears Defence Proposals Worth Rs 52,000 Crore

  • The Defence Acquisition Council met on 3 July 2026 under Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • It granted Acceptance of Necessity for proposals worth about Rs 52,000 crore.
  • Army approvals include the AKASH TARANG anti-UAV electronic warfare system, MPATGM and MRSAM.
  • Navy items include a Multi Influence Ground Mine; the Air Force got a fixed-wing high altitude pseudo satellite.

15. RBI Financial Stability Report June 2026: Key Findings

  • The RBI released the June 2026 Financial Stability Report on 30 June 2026 with a foreword by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
