2. Election Commission of India: Composition, Powers, Issues

  • The ECI is a permanent constitutional body under Article 324 that supervises elections to Parliament, state legislatures, President and Vice-President.
  • Under the 2023 Act, a panel of the PM, a Union Minister and the Leader of Opposition recommends the CEC and ECs.
  • CEC and ECs serve 6 years or until age 65, whichever comes first.
  • The CEC is removed like a Supreme Court judge; other ECs only on the CEC's recommendation.

10. LLDC3 Conference at Awaza, Turkmenistan: Key Facts

  • The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries was held at Awaza, Turkmenistan.
  • There are 32 LLDCs; they hold about 7% of world population but just over 1% of world economy and trade.
  • The Awaza Programme of Action was adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2024 and runs to 2034.

14. India and UAE hold 13th Joint Defence Cooperation Committee

  • The 13th India-UAE Joint Defence Cooperation Committee met in New Delhi on 9 August 2025, the first at Secretary level.
