1. Safe Road Travel as Fundamental Right: Supreme Court on Article 21

In April 2026 the Supreme Court held that the right to safe road travel is part of Article 21.
The ruling came in the Phalodi accident case, stressing accountability for road safety.

The RBI launched Mission SAKSHAM (Sahkari Bank Kshamta Nirman) on 28 April 2026 for urban co-operative banks.

4. IIP March 2026: Industrial Growth Slows to Five-Month Low of 4.1%

IIP growth fell to a five-month low of 4.1% in March 2026, the first data after the West Asia crisis began on February 28.
Capital goods grew 14.6%, a 29-month high, showing strong investment.
Manufacturing grew 4.3%; infrastructure and construction grew 6.7%, a nine-month low.
The eight core sectors, about 40% of IIP weight, contracted 0.4%.

It will anchor a 6.5 GW digital ecosystem and host submarine cable landing stations.

10. SIPRI 2025: World Military Spending Hits $2.89 Trillion

Global military spending reached a record $2.89 trillion in 2025, the 11th straight year of growth, at 2.5% of world GDP.
India spent $92.1 billion, up 8.9%, ranking fifth at 2.3% of GDP.
The top five (USA, China, Russia, Germany, India) account for 58% of global spending.
Germany showed the steepest rise among them at 24.0%.
