A draft of the third round of Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) rules for cars was opened for feedback.

Key facts

  • Feedback period: 21 days.
  • Effective from: 1 April 2027.

What CAFE means

An average fuel efficiency level (or CO2 limit) each carmaker must meet across its whole passenger vehicle range.

Aims

  • Better efficiency, lower CO2.
  • Promote electric, hybrid and renewable-fuel vehicles.
