1. Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project: India Invites Global Tenders

India invited global tenders for the 1,856 MW Sawalkote hydro project on the Chenab.
The move follows India keeping the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance.
The ₹22,705 crore run-of-river project in Ramban will be built by NHPC.

On 30 July 2025 the US President announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports effective 1 August 2025.
Reasons given: high trade barriers and India's energy and defence ties with Russia.
It follows a fifth failed round of India-US trade talks in Washington.
The proposed Russia Sanctions Act 2025 allows up to 500% tariffs on buyers of Russian energy.
