DHRUVA policy and DIGIPIN geo-coded address system unveiled
Why in the news
The Department of Posts has introduced the DHRUVA policy, a geo-coded digital address system, on 25 July 2025. It is built around DIGIPIN, a precise location code.

- DIGIPIN is an alphanumeric code of 10 characters that stands for exact geographic coordinates on 4 m x 4 m grids.
- The Digital Address layer lets users create labels and descriptive addresses linked to their DIGIPIN, shared only with consent.
- DIGIPIN was developed with IIT Hyderabad and ISRO alongside India Post.
- The system was developed entirely in India.
| Layer | Role |

| DIGIPIN | Code for exact location on a 4 m x 4 m grid |
