1. VBSA Bill 2025: One Regulator for Higher Education

  • The VBSA Bill, 2025 replaces UGC, AICTE and NCTE with one commission, aiming at the NEP 2020 vision of light but tight regulation.
  • The commission works through three councils: Regulatory, Accreditation and Standards.
  • It will not control funding; grants move to the Ministry. Medical and legal education stay outside its purview.
  • The Regulatory Council can fine up to ₹70 lakh and order closure of non-compliant institutions.

3. Kalai-II Hydro Project: 1200 MW Plant on Lohit River

  • CCEA approved the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh, with investment above ₹14,000 crore.
  • It is a 1200 MW run-of-the-river plant on the Lohit River with seven units.
  • Expected generation is 4852.95 million units a year; developer is a THDC India and Arunachal government joint venture.

5. Womaniya on GeM: Selling to Government for Women MSEs

  • Womaniya, launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is a feature of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
  • By February 2026 over 2.1 lakh women MSEs were registered, with orders worth ₹28,000 crore.
  • It supports women entrepreneurs, SHGs and artisans selling to Central and State bodies and PSUs.
  • Features include simple cataloguing, paperless process, time-bound payments and Udyam-based onboarding.

10. Blue Revolution 2.0: Reservoir Fisheries Push After Budget 2026-27

  • Budget 2026-27 signalled integrated development of 500 reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars, led by the Department of Fisheries.
  • India is the second-largest fish and aquaculture producer; output hit 197.75 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, up 106% since 2013-14.

12. India Third-Largest Renewable Energy Capacity: 250.52 GW

  • India is now third in installed renewable capacity at 250.52 GW, overtaking Brazil; only China (2,258 GW) and the USA (468 GW) lead.
  • India reached 50% non-fossil installed capacity in June 2025, five years before the 2030 NDC target.
  • Non-fossil capacity was about 283 GW by March 2026: 274.68 GW renewables plus 8.78 GW nuclear.
  • Updated 2031-2035 NDC: 47% lower emissions intensity, 60% non-fossil capacity, 3.5 to 4 billion tonne carbon sink.
