3. Income-tax Act, 2025 Comes into Force from 1 April 2026

  • The Income-tax Act, 2025 came into force on 1 April 2026, replacing India's six-decade-old income-tax law.
  • Parliament passed the Bill on 12 August 2025; Presidential assent followed on 21 August 2025.
  • The CBDT notified the Income-tax Rules, 2026 on 20 March 2026, along with redesigned forms.
  • The release says the underlying tax policy is unchanged; the aim is simpler language and structure.

7. ECB Returns: AD Banks Get a 7-Day Filing Window

  • From 1 April 2026, AD Category-I banks must send certified ECB returns to the RBI within seven calendar days of getting them from borrowers.
  • Earlier there was no fixed time limit for banks to forward ECB returns.
  • Late Submission Fee must be paid only after the RBI acknowledges the return; payment instructions come by email.
  • Delays in Form ECB 2 attract LSF per return, with each delay under one Loan Registration Number counted separately.

11. IMEX 2026 Table-Top Exercise Held at Kochi Under IONS

  • The Indian Navy hosted the IONS Maritime Exercise (IMEX) Table-Top Exercise 2026 at the Maritime Warfare Centre, Kochi.
  • It took place in early 2026, while India chaired the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) once again.
  • Participants included France, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Tanzania.
  • A central theme was overcoming information-sharing hurdles between navies working together.

12. Exercise Dweep Shakti: Tri-Service Island Defence Drill

  • Dweep Shakti was a high-intensity tri-service exercise on island defence and maritime security, held under the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
  • ANC was set up in 2001 and is India's first and only Theater Command, with one unified commander over all three services.
  • Tanks and armoured vehicles were landed from ships onto the shore in beach landing drills to test rapid deployment.
  • Electronic warfare suites and swarming drones were used for reconnaissance and precision strikes.
