Tata Advanced Systems, Javelin JV Sign Missile Co-Production MoU
Why in the news
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) signed a memorandum of understanding, announced at the end of August 2026, to study building Javelin missiles in India.
Key facts
- Parties: TASL and the JJV, a partnership of Raytheon (an RTX business) and Lockheed Martin.
- Scope: the companies will examine whether a dedicated final assembly and integration facility can be set up in India, along with domestic manufacture of some components.
- Under the plan described, sub-assembly kits would come from Lockheed Martin’s Troy, Alabama site and guidance electronics from Raytheon’s Tucson, Arizona site, to be integrated by TASL in India.
- Javelin is a fire-and-forget, medium-range, man-portable anti-tank system; more than 55,000 missiles and 12,000 command launch units have been built.
- TASL was picked as prime Indian partner after the JV evaluated several Indian companies.
