Why in the news
Special Campaign 6.0, a month-long drive for cleanliness and faster disposal of pending work in government offices, began on 2 October 2026 and will continue until 31 October 2026.
Key facts
- Launched by: Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, at the Ministry of Personnel, CSIR headquarters and the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
- Nodal department: Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).
- Focus areas: cleanliness, cutting pendency, reviewing and weeding out records, better use of office space and scientific disposal of e-waste and scrap.
- More than 100 scientific institutions are taking part in this edition.
- Two phases: preparatory phase (15-30 September 2026) to identify pending matters and sites; implementation phase (2-31 October 2026).
- Pending items include references from MPs, parliamentary assurances, state government references and public grievances.

About the campaign
This is the sixth edition of the campaign, coordinated by DARPG. The minister said cleanliness has moved beyond sanitation to become a tool for good governance, efficient use of resources and responsible waste handling. For example, in the preparatory phase the Department of Justice identified 211 public grievances, 309 appeals, 4 sites for cleaning and 49 e-waste items.
