Passport Fees Revised from 1 July 2026: Rs 2,500 for 36 Pages
Why in the news
The Ministry of External Affairs announced a higher passport fee structure on 27 June 2026, to apply from 1 July 2026 under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.

- 36-page ordinary: Rs 1,500 up to Rs 2,500.
- 36-page Tatkal: Rs 3,500 up to Rs 5,000.
- 60-page ordinary: Rs 2,000 up to Rs 3,500.

About the rules
Passport fees are set by the Ministry of External Affairs, which administers the Passports Act framework through its rules. The 2026 amendment raises the charge for each booklet type. Tatkal is the fast-track service that carries a higher fee than the ordinary service.
