Mission Samriddh Gaon: Five Features and Pilot Blocks in Madhya Pradesh
Why in the news
The Rural Development Minister unveiled a mission at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, to build villages free of poverty and rich in jobs, with basic amenities assured and distress migration curbed.
Key facts
- Nodal ministry: Ministry of Rural Development.
- Launched by: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, at Krishi Bhawan, in August 2026.
- Pilots: Budni (Sehore district) and Khategaon (Dewas district), Madhya Pradesh.
- Approach: maps every eligible household and aligns central and state schemes to it.
Five features
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Family-level saturation | Plans at family, gram panchayat and block levels so each family gets every scheme it qualifies for |
| Inter-departmental convergence | Joins agriculture, health, education, skilling, rural development and infrastructure |
| Integrated Farming Systems | Horticulture, livestock, fisheries, poultry and beekeeping together to diversify farm income |
| Women farmer empowerment | Lakhpati Didi model through advice, credit and enterprise options |
| Infrastructure and value addition | Storage, cold chains and local processing, reducing losses and keeping value in the village |
About the mission
- It is not a new cash-transfer scheme; it delivers existing schemes to eligible families and adds livelihood planning.
- Existing programmes it leans on: MGNREGA, PMAY-G, DAY-NRLM SHGs and Lakhpati Didi.
- Older convergence efforts – Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (2014), Mission Antyodaya (2017) – had no family-by-family plan or measurable income goals.
Exam angle
- Nodal ministry: MoRD.
- Three planning levels: family, gram panchayat, block.
- Integrated farming system: one farm mixing crops with livestock, fish, poultry, bees and horticulture for varied income.
