IMAT-05: ISRO Parachute Airdrop Test for Gaganyaan G1

ISRO successfully completed another parachute drop trial on 7 July 2026, preparing the recovery system for the uncrewed first Gaganyaan flight, G1.
Key facts
- Test: Integrated Main Parachute Airdrop Test-5, the fifth in the series.
- Site: ADRDE drop zone, Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh.
- Carrier: Indian Air Force IL-76 heavy transport aircraft, releasing a dummy mass in place of the crew module.
- Goal: confirm the main parachute’s structural integrity and design margins at maximum expected load.
