EPFO CITES 2.01 Database Migration: Key Facts
Why in the news
EPFO told subscribers that its databases and software would be consolidated and upgraded between 26 June and 1 July 2026. Claims, passbook downloads and other member services stayed unavailable for the period, and UMANG access was affected until 2 July 2026.
Key facts
- CITES (Centralised IT-Enabled System) was designed by C-DAC, which works under MeitY, and has been functional since 2023.
- It relies on automation and rule-based processing and replaces 120+ decentralised databases held at field offices.
- Earlier, a member was tied to one regional office; now any PF office can handle any member’s request.
- Members log in with UAN and password; a single Aadhaar KYC shows every earlier Member ID under that UAN.
- EPFO can raise queries online and members reply online.
- The next step after CPPS is the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS).
