3. UPI: NPCI Extends App Volume Cap Deadline to 2026

  • NPCI extended by two years, to December 31, 2026, the deadline for applying the transaction volume cap on UPI apps.
  • UPI links several bank accounts in one mobile app and is described as an advanced version of IMPS; NPCI launched it in 2016 with 21 member banks.
  • UPI value crossed USD 100 billion in a month for the first time in October 2021.
  • NPCI is a not-for-profit company promoted by RBI and IBA under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

12. Coral Reef Status Report: 9.5% Hard Coral Loss, GCRMN 2026

  • The 7th GCRMN reef status report found worldwide hard coral cover about 9.5% below the 1980-2009 baseline.
  • 2023-24 saw the 4th Global Mass Coral Bleaching Event; roughly 87% of reefs met unprecedented heat stress in 2024.
  • Coral cover fell 8.9% between 2023 and 2024, the largest one-year relative drop recorded.
  • Reefs shelter about 25% of marine species while covering under 1% of the ocean floor.

14. Depalpur: First Zero Legacy Waste City under SBM-U 2.0

  • Depalpur (Indore district, Madhya Pradesh) is the first city under Swachh Shehar Jodi to reach Zero Legacy Waste.
  • A total of 1,250 metric tonnes of waste, accumulated over five years, was scientifically remediated.
  • Indore Municipal Corporation acted as the mentor city for Depalpur Nagar Parishad.
  • Recovery included about 4.5 tonnes of recyclables and 50-60 tonnes of RDF sent for co-processing.
