18. Allied Sectors in Indian Agriculture Outpace Crop Farming

  • Per the Economic Survey, livestock grew 7.1% and fisheries 8.8% yearly over the decade to 2024-25, against 3.5% for crops.
  • Horticulture output in 2024-25 topped 360 million tonnes; food grains were about 330 million tonnes.
  • Milk, at about 248 million tonnes, is India's largest food commodity.
  • Livestock GVA rose 195% and fisheries GVA about 140% from 2014-15 to 2023-24.
