1. Chenab Bridge Opened: World’s Highest Rail Bridge, Kashmir Link

  • PM Narendra Modi opened the Chenab Rail Bridge for traffic on 6 June 2025.
  • The deck arch stands 359 m above the river bed, the highest rail bridge in the world.
  • Total length is 1,315 m: a 530 m approach bridge and a 785 m deck arch.
  • A Vande Bharat service between Katra and Srinagar began alongside the opening.
  • The bridge lies in Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, between Kauri and Bakkal stations.

4. Repo Rate Cut to 5.50%: RBI Policy June 2025

  • RBI cut the repo rate by 50 bps from 6.00% to 5.50%, the third cut of 2025 and the biggest in over two years.

12. India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement: WTO Law Angle

  • On 13 February 2025 India and the US agreed to start Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) talks by fall 2025.
  • Selective tariff cuts breach the MFN principle unless the pact qualifies under GATT Article 24 as an FTA or interim deal.
  • Article 24.8(b) needs tariffs removed on substantially all trade; Article 24.5 allows interim deals within a reasonable period, at most 10 years.
