MHA announced the next Census by March 1, 2027, the first since 2011 after a 16-year gap.
It will be India's first digital Census and the first post-Independence Census to count caste.
The Census is held in two phases, with a completion target of February 28, 2027.
The first Census after 2026 will be used to redraw Lok Sabha constituencies.

7. WTO Fisheries Subsidies Pact: Nicaragua 101st Ratifier

Nicaragua accepted the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies on 2 June 2025, the 101st member to do so.
The agreement needs 111 acceptances to enter into force, so 10 more are required.
It was adopted at MC12 in Geneva in June 2022 and is the first WTO pact centred on marine sustainability.
It bans subsidies for IUU fishing, overfished stocks and unregulated high seas fishing, with a WTO Fish Fund for support.
