2. FSDC 29th Meeting: Push to Cut Unclaimed Financial Assets
- Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 29th FSDC meeting in Mumbai on June 11, 2025.
- She urged regulators to cut unclaimed financial assets and directed district-level special camps.
- Digilocker is among digital tools used to trace and recover such assets.
3. Jane Street Probe: SEBI Examines Algorithmic Trading Claims
- SEBI began probing Jane Street over alleged manipulation of Nifty 50 and banking indices via algorithms.
- The probe spans three years after rival firms complained of supernormal profits.
- Gaps cited include no algorithm disclosure and audit norms.
4. Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs): Types, Rules, Investors
- AIFs are privately pooled investment vehicles regulated by SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012.
- SEBI groups them into Category I, II and III by investment objective.
- Minimum investment is ₹1 crore, with at least 3 years of lock-in and up to 1,000 investors per scheme.
- SEBI acted against AIF structures used to evade rules, including NPA recognition norms.
5. SEBI Recovery Notice to OPG Securities: NSE Co-Location
- SEBI began recovery proceedings against OPG Securities and its directors over an unpaid April 2024 penalty.
- The NSE co-location case alleges preferential access to less crowded secondary POP servers and early TBT data.
- SEBI dropped charges against NSE in 2024 for lack of evidence; SAT and the Supreme Court were hearing appeals.
6. SEBI Framework for Social, Sustainability and SL Bonds
- SEBI issued an operational framework for social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds on 5 June 2025.
- It applies to fresh issuances; green bonds stay under separate rules.
- Issuers must engage an external reviewer, and SLBs missing ESG targets may face higher coupons or other penalties.
7. AU Small Finance Bank and IFC Climate Risk Programme
- AU Small Finance Bank partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to embed climate risk in its core banking.
- The programme covers physical risk (IPCC scenarios to 2100), transition risk (NGFS scenarios) and financed emissions (PCAF).
- IFC was formed on 20 July 1956, is based in Washington, D.C. and has 186 members.
8. Zero-Coupon Bonds: Features, Pricing and Taxation
- A zero-coupon bond pays no periodic interest; it is sold at a deep discount and redeemed at face value.
- Return equals par value minus the purchase price.
- Imputed (phantom) interest is taxed annually as ordinary income.
- Longer maturity means a deeper discount and more price volatility.

9. RBI Annual Report 2024-25 on India’s FDI Paradox
- Gross FDI rose 13.7% in FY25, yet net FDI fell to $0.4 billion from $44 billion in FY21.

- Outward FDI rose to $29.2 billion, tripling in five years.

- Siamese Fireback (Lophura diardi), Thailand's national bird, was recorded in India for the first time.
- The sighting was in the forests of Ranikhet, Uttarakhand, by a local bird enthusiast.
- IUCN status is Least Concern, though numbers show a moderate decline from habitat loss and poaching.

14. Defence Production Target ₹3 Lakh Crore by 2029
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the government targets ₹3 lakh crore of defence production by 2029.
- Defence exports are expected to reach ₹50,000 crore by the same year.
