Annual Survey of Industries 2023-24: Tamil Nadu tops factory count
Why in the news
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) results for 2023-24, covering April 2023 to March 2024. Fieldwork ran from October 2024 to June 2025.
Key facts
- Factories: 2,60,061 across India; Tamil Nadu has the largest share at 15.43%.
- GVA: gross value added grew 11.89% in current prices; output grew 5.80%.
- Employment: persons engaged rose from 1,84,94,962 to 1,95,89,131.
- Jobs: manufacturing added over 57 lakh jobs between 2014-15 and 2023-24.
- Capital: both fixed capital and invested capital increased over FY23.
