Why in the news
The Union Ministry of Education released UDISE+ 2025-26 on 7 July 2026; it is called the country’s largest school education database.

NEP 2020 sets a 30:1 benchmark, so all four stages beat it.
Other indicators
- Dropout: 1.8% at preparatory level and 7.0% at secondary level, both lower than before.
- Most schools have electricity, drinking water, working toilets and handwashing facilities.
- Each student carries a Unique Educational ID.
About UDISE+
- Expansion: Unified District Information System for Education Plus.
- Started in 2018-19, replacing UDISE.
- Run by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, as an online Education Management Information System.
- Covers every school from pre-primary to Class 12.
- Used for collecting data, shaping policy and tracking schemes such as Samagra Shiksha and PM POSHAN.
