Astra Mk 1 BVRAAM Deal Signed With Indonesia
Why in the news
At the bilateral summit in Jakarta, India and Indonesia concluded a defence agreement under which India will supply its home-grown Astra Mk 1 missile.
About Astra Mk 1
- A BVRAAM, built to strike hostile aircraft from a long distance, before they come into visual range.
- Designed by: DRDO. Manufactured by: Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
- Purpose: give the Indian Air Force long-range air combat ability and lessen dependence on foreign air-to-air missiles.
