BRAHMANK Project: BRO Marks 16th Raising Day in Arunachal
Why in the news
Project BRAHMANK, a unit of the Border Roads Organisation, held its 16th Raising Day at Ranaghat in East Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, on 29 June 2026. The event also marked 15 years of service on the north-eastern frontier.
Key facts
- Raised: 29 June 2011; operational: 3 December 2011.
- Coverage: Siang, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang and Shi-Yomi districts of Arunachal Pradesh, plus parts of Dhemaji (Assam).
- Assets handled: 811 km of roads and 86 bridges, from small culverts to large steel and arch structures.
- Notable works: a 100-m steel arch bridge over Siyom Nallah and a 165-m PSC bridge over Simang Nallah on the Along-Yingkiong Road.
- FY 2025-26 output: 13 bridges (390 m in total) and 61 km blacktopped to National Highway Double Lane standard.
- Also builds tactical helipads near the LAC that serve IAF logistics and emergency evacuation.

About the Border Roads Organisation
- An executive force that builds and maintains infrastructure in remote border areas and in friendly neighbouring countries; headquartered in New Delhi.
- Established: 7 May 1960. Motto: “Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam”.

- Sela Tunnel (opened 9 March 2024): longest bi-lane tunnel above 13,000 ft.
- Atal Tunnel at Rohtang: 9.02 km, inaugurated 3 October 2020.
- Shinku La Tunnel (Ladakh): under construction, described as the world’s highest tunnel at 15,800 ft.
- Others: Nechiphu Tunnel, Sisseri Bridge, Siyom Bridge, Darbuk-Shyok-DBO Road, Srinagar-Leh Highway.
