On 5 October 2026 the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released its yearly report on Indian telecom services performance indicators for the financial year 2025-26 (data up to end-March 2026).
Key facts
- Total telephone subscribers: 1,330.58 million, up 10.81% over the previous year (urban 778.79 million, rural 551.79 million).
- Wireless subscribers (mobile plus fixed wireless access): 1,282.33 million, up 10.19%; mobile alone 1,265.73 million and FWA 16.61 million.
- Wireline subscribers: 48.25 million, the fastest growth at 30.25%.
- Internet subscribers: 1,092.79 million (up 12.76%), of which broadband 1,065.88 million and narrowband 26.91 million.
- Teledensity: overall 93.26%, urban 151.47%, rural 60.46%.
- Usage: an average wireless data user consumed 25.51 GB a month; average minutes of usage were 950.11 per month.
