VOC Port Hosts India’s First Port Green Hydrogen Plant

A Union Minister inaugurated a pilot green hydrogen unit at VOC Port, Tuticorin, the first Indian port to make green hydrogen.
Key facts
- Capacity: 10 Nm³ per hour; cost: ₹3.87 crore.
- Umbrella: Coastal Green Shipping Corridor Project (Kandla-Tuticorin); aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047 and Sagarmala.
- Uses: power for streetlights and EV charging in the port colony.
- Aim: make VOC a green bunkering hub for South India.
About VOC Port
- One of India’s 13 major ports, on the Coromandel Coast; called Tuticorin Port until renamed in 2011 after V.O. Chidambaranar.
- Over ₹16,000 crore invested under Sagarmala.
