V2V Technology: MoRTH Draft Rules for Vehicle Communication
Why in the news
In August 2026 the road transport ministry floated draft rule changes to bring vehicle-to-vehicle messaging into Indian vehicles.
Key facts
- A wireless framework letting nearby vehicles share live driving data.
- Unlike cameras and radar it works beyond direct sight, warning of hidden hazards.
- Aim: fewer road deaths, supplementing ADAS and preparing for ITS.
How it works
| Step | Detail |
|---|---|
| Send | Factory-fitted OBUs broadcast GPS position, velocity and trajectory |
| Link | Peer-to-peer over a few hundred metres, no towers or servers |
| Compute | Onboard processor estimates collision risk in milliseconds |
| Warn | Visual, audio or haptic alert before the hazard is seen |
Exam angle
- Nodal ministry: MoRTH.
- Terms: V2V, OBU, ADAS, ITS.
