UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance Opens in Geneva
Why in the news
The first-ever United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance took place in Geneva on 6-7 July 2026, and India took part with a delegation headed by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh.

- Venue and dates: Geneva, 6-7 July 2026; a second session is planned for May 2027 in New York.
- Created under UN General Assembly Resolution 79/325, following the Global Digital Compact adopted with the Pact of the Future in September 2024.
- India’s delegation head: Kirti Vardhan Singh, MoS in the Ministry of External Affairs (who also handles Environment, Forest and Climate Change).
- India restated its AI for All vision: human-centric AI, human-rights protection and safeguards against misuse.

About the dialogue
The Dialogue is a universal, multi-stakeholder forum meant to advance international AI governance in ways that complement existing efforts at global, regional and national levels. The Independent International Scientific Panel on AI presented the first independent scientific assessment of AI’s capabilities, opportunities and risks.
