Why in the news

Security researchers flagged multiple flaws in UMANG that left personal data from various government services open to exposure. MeitY admitted the problem and started fixing it.

About UMANG

  • Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance: one platform for Central, State and local services.
  • Launched: November 2017, by NeGD under MeitY, under Digital India.
  • Aim: single-window access, ease of governance and fewer separate apps.
  • Over 2,400 services on Android, iOS and web, in multiple Indian languages, including EPFO, Passport, DigiLocker, PAN and LPG booking.
