TPCR-2025: India’s 15-Year Defence Technology Roadmap to 2040
Why in the news
The Ministry of Defence has put out TPCR-2025, a long-range roadmap that lists the technologies and capabilities the armed forces want over the next 15 years.
Key facts
- The plan runs to 2040 and aims at self-reliance through indigenisation.
- Drones: stealth drones with a 1,500 km range and 60,000-foot ceiling, plus loitering munitions with AI targeting.
- Electronic warfare: adaptive jamming, electronic denial zones of 15 km radius, AI cyber tools and quantum communication.
- Missiles: over 500 hypersonic missiles with scramjet propulsion.
- Nuclear defence: better delivery platforms and command systems, radiation detectors and unmanned vehicles for CBRN reconnaissance.
| Service | Highlights in the roadmap |
|---|---|
| Navy | Nuclear propulsion; next-generation carrier with EMALS |
| Army | 1,800 Future Ready Combat Vehicles; light tanks for mountain warfare |
| Air Force | Laser weapons; stealth bomber drones; high-altitude pseudo-satellites |
About the roadmap
Beyond weapons, the roadmap also covers digital twin simulations and green, energy-efficient logistics.
Exam angle
- Remember the end year 2040 and the 15-year span.
- Service-wise items are favourites: Navy EMALS carrier, Army 1,800 combat vehicles, Air Force laser weapons and pseudo-satellites.
