The PM presented the Vikram chip at SEMICON India 2025; attendance was expected to double over the last edition.
India Semiconductor Mission
- Began December 2021, outlay ₹76,000 crore.
- Cleared: one chip fab, one compound semiconductor fab and eight OSAT/ATMP units.
- OSAT: Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing.
Vikram chip
- Named for Dr. Vikram Sarabhai.
- Made at Micron’s Sanand plant, Gujarat.
- 28nm node initially; advanced nodes planned.
- Uses: consumer electronics, telecom, automotive, defence.
Exam angle
- ISM: 2021, ₹76,000 crore.
- Target: global semiconductor hub by 2030.
