Why in the news
In November 2025 the Ministry of Corporate Affairs was fine-tuning PMIS to draw more youth and match industry skill needs ahead of its full launch this financial year.
Key facts
- Announced in Union Budget 2024-25; pilot began 3 October 2024; nodal ministry Corporate Affairs.
- 12 months, at least half in a real work setting; reach across 700+ districts.
- Interns are insured under PMJJBY and PMSBY.

Eligibility
- Indian citizen aged 21-24, not in full-time study or job.
- Minimum 10th pass, or ITI, diploma, certificate or degree by stream.
- Family income often reported below ₹8 lakh a year.
