India began a first-of-its-kind National Red List Assessment of its plants and animals to measure how threatened they are and guide conservation.

- Scale: nearly 11,000 species, to be assessed by 2030.
- Framework: India’s Vision 2025-2030, drafted by ZSI and BSI, working alongside IUCN-India and the Centre for Species Survival.
- Output: National Red Data Books covering plants and animals, due by 2030 and built on IUCN-aligned guidelines.
Objective
Record conservation status and help India honour two international commitments: the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
