The Union Cooperation Minister introduced a set of digital tools for NAFED to bring transparency and efficiency to agricultural auctions. He also reviewed the federation’s work with its board.

About NAFED

  • NAFED expands to National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India; it is the apex body for cooperative sale of farm produce, based in New Delhi.
  • Established 2 October 1958; governed by the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002 (originally registered under the Bombay Co-operative Societies Act, 1925).
  • Functions: marketing, MSP procurement of pulses and oilseeds under the Price Support Scheme, PM-AASHA implementation, storage, trade in farm commodities and inputs.

Ministry of Cooperation

  • Formed on 6 July 2021 from the Agriculture Ministry’s cooperation department; Amit Shah is its first Minister.
  • Aim: deepen the cooperative movement at the grassroots; the “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” slogan dates from this creation.
