The Union government revised how micro, small and medium enterprises are defined, lifting the plant-and-machinery investment and turnover ceilings.

- Many medium enterprises now fall in the small category.
- Under the MSMED Act, 2006, only micro and small firms could use the Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Councils (MSEFCs).
- More firms can now pursue arbitration, conciliation and mediation for late payments.
- Public Procurement Policy: ministries and PSUs buy at least 25% from micro and small units.
