On 2 October 2026, Gandhi Jayanti, the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) declared its Jawahar Dweep Marine Oil Terminal to be India’s first plastic-free oil terminal.

About the initiative
The minister said a plastic-free Jawahar Dweep shows that ports can grow their operations while staying clean. MbPA has committed to carrying the plastic reduction drive to other docks, staff colonies and coastal stretches through 2026, linking port operations with the Swachh Bharat mission.
