The Navy received the locally built stealth frigate Himgiri, advancing aatmanirbharta in shipbuilding.

Key facts

  • Udaygiri, Himgiri’s sister ship, was handed over on 1 July by Mazagon Dock Ltd.
  • INS Nilgiri (January 2024) was the first ship commissioned.
  • The rest of the class is expected by end-2026.

Capabilities

  • BrahMos (range now 450 km) and Barak-8 (70 km, air defence).
  • Automation, sensor integration and stealth against multi-dimensional threats.
