INS Aravali: Navy Base in Gurugram Boosts Maritime Awareness

The Indian Navy’s new INS Aravali, commissioned on 12 September 2025 in Gurugram, was widely covered on 15 September as a hub for maritime awareness and communications.
Key facts
- INS Aravali is a land-based naval establishment, called a stone frigate, in Gurugram, Haryana.
- It was commissioned by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. Its first Commanding Officer is Captain Sachin Kumar Singh.
- Role: strengthen command and control (C2) and maritime domain awareness (MDA), supporting the co-located IMAC and IFC-IOR.
- Motto: Maritime Security through Collaboration, in line with the MAHASAGAR vision.
- The name comes from the Aravali mountain range.
About IMAC and IFC-IOR
The Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) was founded in Gurugram in 2014 and uses coastal radar and satellite data to assess threats in the Indian Ocean Region. The Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) was set up in 2018 and has built more than 65 international working-level linkages. MAHASAGAR stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
