Carbon emissions from India’s electricity sector slipped 1% in the first half of 2025 compared with H1 2024.
Reasons
- Weather: milder summer, rain about 30% above normal in March-May, fewer heatwaves cutting air-conditioning load (about 10% of summer demand).
- Renewables: 25.1 GW clean capacity added.
- Total generation up 9 TWh while fossil fuel (mainly coal) fell 29 TWh.
- Rises: solar 17 TWh, wind 9, hydro 9, nuclear 3.
