Why in the news
The Department of Telecommunications and Madhya Pradesh agreed, through an MoU signed on 30 July 2026 in New Delhi, to build a telecom hardware cluster at Gwalior.
Key facts
- Concept: a plug-and-play cluster for manufacturing, R&D, testing and certification.
- Phase-I land: about 100 acres in the SADA region plus 70 acres at Gwalior IT Park; the state gives it free.
- Central aid: about ₹493 crore (often quoted as ₹500 crore), meeting the whole core-infrastructure cost of Phase-I.
- Timeline: Phase-I takes about three years.

- Reduce imports of telecom hardware.
